Rapid expansion of Amalgamated
Roofing in the period from 1999 –
2001 saw the company move twice:
from a building adjoining Dimond
and then in 2002 developed purpose built
workshops in Vaughan Road.
An extension to the office has recently
been added. Rotorua, with a staff of
27, serves the Bay of Plenty, Waikato
and the King Country but Donald has
never been afraid of working out of
town. Slowly the work started to spread
further afield – Ohakune, Pukekohe,
Levin, Mt Ruapehu, Taupo, New
Plymouth, Palmerston North.
In 2003 Donald and Maria started
another company in Hastings serving
Hawkes Bay and Manawatu. Hastings
Manager Jeff Moulder (formerly a
self employed contractor and ex AHI
Taupo) had moved back to Hawkes
Bay, Donald got to hear and they
worked out a plan to make it work.
Hastings currently has 15 staff but
on completion of a re-roofing job at
the Napier port, numbers will drop
back to eight. Hastings branch is an
Ardex approved installer of Butynol® in Hawkes Bay.
Jeff says the branch has progressed
rapidly because there was a tried and
tested formula coming from Rotorua
to expedite.
In the wake of leaky homes Jeff says
that while architects are dictating how
roofs should be fixed, builders are relying
on roofing contractors increasingly to
find answers to problems in relation
to E2/AS1 that will ensure the job is
signed off by the BCA. In the residential
area the architectural style has become
a lot more difficult and Amalgamated
Roofing prides itself on being able to
find answers to problems. |
