When Donald and Maria Trott looked at starting their business they weren’t afraid to call in professional advice. That early involvement (of accountants, lawyers and bankers) was pivotal to what Amalgamated Roofing Ltd has achieved since formation in 1999.

Acknowledging they were not experts in management but keen to learn, the Trotts embraced the professional advice and their company is performing way ahead of expectations.

“ The preliminary work cost a lot of money at the time but it really opened our eyes to the procedures and systems that needed to be in place,” says Donald, whose philosophy is reflected in the calibre of people and skills in the business. From key personnel, to foremen, roofers and office staff, the employees are the essential ingredients in the Amalgamated Roofing mix.

For Maria, coming into the role of office administrator, it meant learning a whole new language of ridges, hips, valleys, barges and quotes. Donald says as husband and wife as well as working together as co-directors of the business theirs is a special relationship, enriched 11 months ago with the birth of their first child Samantha.
